NLM's Loansome Doc System

Loansome Doc allows users to order full-text copies of articles from a medical library from citations on PubMed. The Loansome Doc Registration page stores the user's complete name, address, telephone number, fax number, preferred method of delivery (Mail, Fax, Pickup, Email (TIFF), Email (PDF), Web (TIFF), Web (PDF)), and a library identifier for the library that will provide you with your requested documents. Hong Kong International MEDLARS Centre (HKIMC) is one of the libraries that provides Loansome Doc service to all health professionals.

Steps of Registering as a Loansome Doc User:

Important:

you must complete two registration forms. The information such as your NAME and other data should be the same for both forms.
     
  1. Fill out HKIMC User Registration Form. You will be sent a Library ID through Email. This Library ID is needed before you can fill out NLM's Loansome Doc Registration Form.

  2. After receiving the Library ID, go to NLM's Loansome Doc Registration Page and follow the steps to fill out the NLM form.

  3. After completing the second registration form, follow the Loansome Doc ordering procedure as described below for requesting documents.
       
      Loansome Doc Ordering Procedure:
     
  1. Do a literature search using PubMed.
  2. Click the check box next to any articles you want to order.
  3. From PubMed select "Order" from the Send to menu, and click the Send to button, or temporarily save your selections to the Clipboard by clicking "Add to Clipboard" on the PubMed features bar.
  4. Enter your UserID and Password.
  5. Select "Order Documents" from the drop-down selection box. Click Go.
  6. Review orders and delivery information.
  7. Click Send Order button.
  8. The NLM computer will transfer your order to HKIMC.
  9. Our staff will attemp to fulfill your request per your specifications when using PubMed.
  10. If HKIMC can fill your request, the document(s) is(are) sent by e-mail, mail or fax (per user's preference). If HKIMC is unable to fill your request, and if you have indicated that your request can be forwarded to another library, HKIMC will transfer your request. Your request then will be handled by other libraries, and you will be notified accordingly. If your request cannot be found, your order will be recorded as "NOT FILLED". If you have indicated that the request should not be forwarded to another library, your request will be canceled whenever HKIMC does not have the requested document.
